May Guest Speaker-Shireen Hammond
To quote our illustrious camera club President this week, being such a tactile and passionate photographer, there is no doubt that if Shireen Hammond could have jumped out of the computer screen and into our lounge rooms last Monday night during the Zoom presentation – she would have, such was her infectious enthusiasm.
Shireen is a multi award winning wedding, portrait and commercial photographer, and a photography awards judge. Along with her husband, Robert, they run their photography business, Field of Vision, in Melbourne.
Shireen gave an inspiring, engaging and candid presentation with messages of encouragement and practical things we could adopt to start working on the art of portrait photography. Some of those tips were:
Find a pose you like and introduce it into your photography
Directing your subject/s is critical
Keep talking to your subjects to keep them engaged and comfortable with you
Raise and lower the pitch of your voice to match the intensity of the pose (jump – loud voice / touch your subject tenderly – soft voice
Ask your subjects to wear pastel colours to achieve a pleasing palette but use bold colours if it suits your subject
The almost 50 club members who attended this Zoom presentation would have a lot from Shireen’s tips and tricks that she generously shared with us. We very much appreciated the effort Shireen and Robert put into their presentation for our club.
