Guest Speaker - Anthony McKee

As November’s guest speaker night was held on Remembrance Day, we firstly watched a very moving audio video, “A Field in Flanders” by Wolf Marx about his uncle who was tragically killed in WWI. It was a lovely tribute to a lost family member.

Anthony McKee was our guest speaker this month, and he also began his presentation with a terrific AV made by a collective of photographers in his native New Zealand. The video was a collage of portraits of returned men and women who served in WWII.

Anthony moved to Australia in the early 2000’s, and is a professional documentary-style photographer. The topic he spoke on was “Beyond Fiction” – how technology is making photography easy for everyone, but along the way we are losing what photography is exceptionally good at ….. telling stories.

Anthony’s presentation gave the camera club members many ideas, including his  3 Methods of Documentary Capture – anticipation, confrontation and random. He showed some of his excellent photos to demonstrate his points. Anthony left the audience with a final thought – “A photographer’s ability to anticipate and capture moments is a skill set ….. we should be making the most of it”. The audience very much appreciated this very interesting presentation, and it’s interactive nature.

After the break we watched some excellent AV’s from the CCC vs South Australia Interclub competition, which was great for the audience to see what our AV group have been working on.
