I think I have loved photography all my life, without realizing it. I worked as a photographer in the mid 70’s and gave it away to pursue a corporate career. Five years ago, when I retired, my husband thrust a Choice Book on Digital Photography under my nose. I was hooked. Since then, despite having been a couch potato (my hobbies included cooking and needlepoint), my camera has taken me places, I would not have bothered about before. Short excursions from home, around Australia and the occasional trip overseas. Photography for me is like going out there and getting presents for free. And then when you get home and download all the images, you get to open the presents and having a look inside! And when you work on each image in Photoshop, you not only get to savour each precious moment again, but every now and then you will get to see something (someone’s expression or something outside your original line of sight) that you had missed in real time. I don’t tend to enter competitions nor do I try to make money out of my photography. I do it for the sheer joy of it. I have done christenings, weddings, pet and children’s photoshoots for friends. I just love to see their faces when they see their loved ones or special occasions captured for ever in beautiful images. I have several large canvases of my photographs hanging on my walls at home – they depict special times and special places and remind me how lucky I am to be alive.
